Summer Term 2024

Year 2 have had a very busy but fun-filled Summer 2 with lots of learning, exciting trips and visitors!

The Disgusting Sandwich

As part of our English topic we read the book The Disgusting sandwich’ by Gareth Edwards.

We made a VERY disgusting sandwich in the classroom and we used the book as a stimulus to write character descriptions, a setting and a narrative piece.

Plants

In Science we have been learning all about how to grow and look after plants.

Each house table planted some tomato seeds, onion seeds and garlic seeds in different conditions and observed how they grew.

We were very impressed with our tomato plants that seemed to grow rapidly in our hot classrooms!

The children enjoyed taking it in turns to water them and look after them.

Longdown Activity Farm

Our trip to Longdown Dairy Farm was wonderful, the weather was great, the children were well behaved and engaged and we all had a great final Devonshire school trip.

Sports Day

We had a really enjoyable Sports Day afternoon. There were a great variety of activities such as hurdles and ball balancing.

Thank you to all of the parents who came to cheer us on and support us.

Playground Proms

We had the most amazing experience in the school hall when ‘Playground Proms’ came to visit.

They put on a spectacularly energetic performance with a double bass, two violins and a viola.

The whole school was engrossed by the beautiful music that they played whilst still having so much fun!

Sleepover

We all had a fantastic night at the Year 2 sleepover!

Leavers Assembly

At the end of the year, we had our very emotional Year 2 Leavers Assembly.

The children were absolutely fantastic and made us so proud learning all of their lines, singing the songs beautifully and most importantly, having fun!

All of the staff and parents are extremely proud of our wonderful Year 2s and we wish them all the luck for Junior School!
