The Badgers |
Year2 |
The Foxes |
Here you will find information about the topics we have covered over the year and the trips and events that we have undertaken. We like to get out and about in the local community and enjoy many visitors coming into school. Year 2 encourages and focuses on independence and offers many responsibilities to the children to take on roles within the classroom and the school as a whole. Take a look at what we have been learning about and enjoy viewing the photos of our trips and events.

Spring Term 2025 |
My Dog Sighs – ArtYear 2 had a fabulous time learning all about our local street artist My Dog Sighs. We explored the different kinds of art that he creates and then put our skills to the test by sketching a detailed eye and then creating our very own Everyman art. The children enjoyed it so much that they made an Everyman of themselves. The children all put their own creative flare into their work and the results were excellent! The children’s favourite part was mixing the paints to make new colours and blending the background. Well done Year 2! |

Learning Outside
With the warmer weather now settling in, Year 2 have enjoyed taking some lessons in our new garden space.
The children enjoyed a maths lesson where they were finding equal amounts of groups.
HMS Titanic – History, English and DTThe children have loved learning all about the Titanic in our History topic. They learned all about life on board the ship and the differences between being a first and third class passenger. As part of our writing, the children wrote some imaginative diary entries. We also incorporated DT into our Titanic topic and the children all made hand puppets of a passenger of their choice! |

Autumn Term 2024
It was great to be back at school in the autumn term. It has been busy and challenging but the children have been fantastic throughout. |
PSHE – My Happy MindThis year we introduced a new programme into our PSHE curriculum called My Happy Mind. Year 2 have really enjoyed learning their first two topics: Meet Your Brain and Celebrate. In Meet Your Brain, the children have learned about the three most important parts of their brain that keep you happy and what to do if the amygdala takes over! In Celebrate, children have been learning all about their character strengths and what makes them unique and special. Foxes and Badgers have loved collecting stickers when they have achieved one of the character strengths in their classrooms! |
Nutcracker inspired diorama – Design & TechnologyThe children got creative this half term with their Nutcracker inspired dioramas! The children learned all about the Nutcracker story, danced to Tchaikovsky music and learned some valuable skills in mechanisms, before planning, designing and creating their very own dioramas. The children loved using shoe boxes and different materials to make their scenes come to life. Finally, they added their characters on levers and gave a performance to the rest of the class!

English – Meerkat Mail
We had a very cheeky visitor arrive in England all the way from the Kalahari Desert, Sunny the Meerkat!
He first took a tour of Portsmouth before he was spotted by a neighbour at our school getting up to mischief.
The children were amazed and wrote a newsletter for the local newspaper about what Sunny got up to at Devonshire!
