The Foxes

Here you will find information about the topics we have covered over the year and the trips and events that we have undertaken.

We like to get out and about in the local community and enjoy many visitors coming into school.

Year 2 encourages and focuses on independence and offers many responsibilities to the children to take on roles within the classroom and the school as a whole.

Take a look at what we have been learning about and enjoy viewing the photos of our trips and events.

Summer Term 2026

Winchester Science Centre

The Year 2 children had a fantastic trip to Winchester science Museum.

The children took part in a Blast Off workshop where they designed and fired their own rockets.

There was a competition over who’s travelled the furthest and lots of learning about aerodynamics!

Longdown Activity Farm

Our trip to Longdown was a huge success despite the hot weather!

The children had the experience of bottle-feeding calves and kid goats plus some very hungry adult goats!

A bumpy tractor ride and getting to hold weeks old chicks topped the day off.

Sports Day

We all loved our Sports Day in May where we got to show off our excellent PE skills to all of our friends and families.

Year 2 Leavers Disco

We rounded the year off with a brilliant disco that included our own personal ice cream van.

Just the trick to cool down after dancing, the children each got to choose an ice cream that we enjoyed on the playground after returning to the party!

Spring Term 2026

Puppets

Year 2 developed their Design and Technology skills from Year 1 in their sewing project.

They designed a passenger from The Titanic and carefully chose materials for their design.

They used a running stitch and practised on a card before sewing their final piece.

Everyone showed great resilience, even when it was tricky!!

RMS Titanic (History)

Year 2 children took a blast to the past in our exciting topic, The Titanic!

The children learned all about life as a passenger on board the RMS Titanic through role play and researching facts.

We then went to the SeaCity Museum where we explored artefacts, dressed up as characters and completed workshops.

It was a fantastic day and the children had lots of fun while building their knowledge!

We ended the topic with a fabulous dress up day, practised ballroom dancing and ended the day with a class party!

The Great Fire of London

Year 2 were thoroughly immersed in their Great Fire of London projects.

This incorporated drama, writing, history skills and art.

The children practised their collage skills and created work representing the fire.

Autumn Term 2025

It was great to be back at school in the autumn term. It has been busy and challenging but the children have been fantastic throughout.

Geography

Year 2 children enjoyed an exciting geography walk to Southsea Seafront, where they explored its unique features.

They walked along the seafront to observe physical features such as beaches and the sea.

The children also identified human features, including the promenade, shops, cafes, and the pier.

Through hands-on observation, they learned how human and physical features shape the character of a coastal environment and discussed how people use and care for these areas.

Nutcracker moving pictures – Design & Technology

The children got creative this half term with their Nutcracker moving pictures!

The children learned all about the Nutcracker story, danced to Tchaikovsky music and learned some valuable skills in mechanisms, before planning, designing and creating their very own pictures.

The children loved using different materials to make their scenes come to life.

Finally, they added their characters on levers and gave a performance to the rest of the class!

English – Meerkat Mail

We had a very cheeky visitor arrive in England all the way from the Kalahari Desert, Sunny the Meerkat!

He first took a tour of Portsmouth before he was spotted by a neighbour at our school getting up to mischief.

The children were amazed and wrote a newsletter for the local newspaper about what Sunny got up to at Devonshire!

Christmas

We had great fun at our Christmas party!

And finally a big thank you to all the parents who came to Santa's workshops.

Have a great Christmas and a happy New Year!
